Jake M. Levy

Jake's practice encompasses a broad range of transactions in the entertainment industry, with an emphasis on television, motion picture, music and book publishing matters.  He represents producers, actors, writers and directors, as well as production companies and financiers of scripted and unscripted television, motion pictures and digital media programs. Jake regularly acts as production counsel on television programs and motion pictures and advises clients from development through distribution, including on privacy and publicity, copyright and defamation issues.

In the music industry, Jake represents creative talent such as bands, producers and songwriters. Jake also counsels literary authors on book publishing, motion picture and television agreements. He advises fashion/lifestyle brands, media agencies and talent on endorsement, sponsorship and merchandising matters.  He has represented individuals and entities in connection with Broadway theater productions and live events.

Jake has been recognized by “Super Lawyers” as a “Rising Star” in the field of entertainment and sports.  He speaks on entertainment industry topics at venues such as the Sundance Film Festival and NYU Law School. Prior to joining Franklin Weinrib, Jake was an associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett where he provided strategic counsel on transactional intellectual property and corporate law matters. 

Jake received his B.A., with Distinction in all Subjects, from Cornell University and his J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law.  At NYU, Jake was awarded the Larry Fleischer Memorial Foundation Prize for extraordinary achievement in the area of sports and entertainment law and was an Articles Editor of the NYU Journal of Law & Business.  Jake is a member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
