Practice areas

We have represented major record companies and internet and mobile music services from the inception of the digital music industry, and have helped structure prevailing business models, from digital downloads to streaming to hybrid subscription services.

We advise and represent recording artists, composers, major record labels and independent labels, music publishers, conductors, producers and managers.  Our transactional work includes:  drafting and negotiating recording agreements; label and production agreements; joint venture contracts; agreements for the sale or licensing of recording or publishing catalogs; agreements between artists and independent producers, managers and agents; partnership or shareholder agreements among band members; contracts with performance venues; co-publishing and administration agreements, as well as the licensing of songs for synchronization, mechanical reproductions, public performance, and print uses.

In connection with our extensive work in theater and film, our music practice involves a great deal of work relating to cast albums and soundtrack albums.  We also counsel music producers and labels respecting copyright, defamation, and rights of privacy issues that arise with music lyrics, album cover designs, and music videos.
