Elliot H. BrownOn April 3, Elliot Brown spoke to a group of more than 60 theatre artists — mainly directors and choreographers — on the subject of securing theatrical adaptation rights in various media. In a question and answer format, Elliot covered such topics as acquisition of underlying rights to turn a movie, a novel, a life story and other works into a theatrical stage piece; copyright issues to be considered; and the form of contract. The meeting, jointly sponsored by The Society of Directors and Choreographers and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation, is one of a series to which theatrical professionals are invited to share their expertise. The discussion is intended to be podcast at a future date as part of the American Theatre Wing’s web series, “Masters of the Stage.”
